What We Think About Comes About!
It’s that time again when we reflect on the previous year and chart our course for the year ahead. Over the years we’ve become increasingly committed to developing our vision boards and practicing the “law of attraction”. As we review our vision boards we continue to be blown away by the many things that have come into existence in our lives.
The vision boarding process can sound hokey and perhaps intimidating, but we keep things realistic and simple. We start by celebrating the things that came to fruition from the previous year. Then we think about what we’d like to experience in the year ahead and search the internet for inspirational pictures and then print and place them on our boards. Finally, we pick a theme word each year to serve as our “Northstar”.
Last year we asked the boys to join us and based on their positive experience, they’ve jumped right back in again this year. Dominic has chosen “maybe” as his theme word. He watched “A Chinese Farmer Story” by Alan Watts and decided he wanted to master the “maybe” mindset. We encourage you to watch it on YouTube.
Christian has chosen the word “assertive”. Sometimes he’s in his big brother’s shadow and he also had an encounter with a “bully” this year so he’s decided he wants to be more assertive in certain situations. Good for him!
With three Eagle Scouts in the house, Christina felt like “be prepared” would be fitting for her word of the year. As we strive for the best versions of ourselves she wants to continue her growth mindset and feels that being even more prepared will help her reach her goals in the new year.
Our favorite destination, Waikiki, provides the inspiration for Matt’s theme word - Aloha. Years ago he read about the late great Duke Kahanamoku who said “In Hawaii, we greet friends, loved ones, and strangers with Aloha, which means with love. Aloha is the key word to the universal spirit of real hospitality, which makes Hawaii renowned as the world’s center of understanding and fellowship.” With all of the division around us, Matt’s on a mission to spread Aloha to others and hopes it multiplies as people pay the Aloha vibe forward.
